Shop the Look

Last week I attended a fashion show in Galway with a few friends and here is what I wore. This asymmetrical grey leather skirt from Topshop is my latest find and I couldn't wear to wear it. I of course have a penchant for all things leather and love to wear different colours aside from black. I love this pale, almost metallic shade. I also adore the elasticated waistband and wrap over asymmetrical style. I really love a great cut and anything with an asymmetrical style makes for a far more interesting look. I have a black asymmetrical skirt from last year and still love it.

I ordered this embossed white structured top from River Island a few weeks ago. I had been searching for something just like it and was so excited to find this one for £10 on River Island online. It's such an amazing find, I have since worn it with boyfriend jeans and trainers and can think of so many ways to style it. It's so versatile. I would definitely recommend it and it's such a bargain. If you would like to purchase one click on the picture in the Shop My Look feature below.

These heels are another favourite of mine as of late. I saw them in a magazine and had to have them. I really love the style and have worn them a few times already. I wore them during the week while filming for Style Nation TV and I attended a Press Day from Boohoo.com the same day. I wore them with distressed boyfriend jeans and a leather t-shirt, for pictures visit my Facebook page. Again they are great value and there is a link to purchase them below. To complete the look I opted for a caped white blazer and added some colour with my oversized teal clutch.

Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram to see all my filming and press day pictures from during the week.

Darker Days and Darker Shades

Dress (here) & Sunglasses, Topshop // Boots, Penneys/Primark // Bag,
Coach // Watch, Michael Kors // Spike Bracelet, H&M

A black outfit has the potential to be very chic and stylish. But, akin to all outfits, it must be well styled; there is a fine like between chic and Wednesday Adams from the Adams Family! Here is an outfit I wore for a Sunday lunch in Galway last weekend, it's a classic example of turning your night out LBD into a classic day time look. I actually swapped the boots for nude heels and wore the same dress to a party that same night. An LBD (Little Black Dress) is a wardrobe staple and I just adore this one from Topshop which I purchased back in July. Since the release of this black one they have introduced a variety of colours and I have since bought a red one. As you may already know, I am so fussy when it comes to fabrics and crepe is my current obsession. This dress is made from gorgeous crepe fabric and it sits beautifully creating the perfect, flattering silhouette.

Wearing bare legs and ankle boots is a staple outfit of mine and I absolutely adore western ankle boots. You may remember these boots from when I attended Penneys (Primark) Press Day or from a previous outfit post where I wore a burgundy version. I received the burgundy version as a gift from Penneys press team prior to their release and I stalked Penneys until the release of the black pair, I had to have them! I wore for them first time with this outfit and have worn them all week since, with black or grey skinny jeans. They are my A/W'13 staple boots.

I love black slouchy handbags but I find when it comes to black bags you really do need to invest, as otherwise they look very cheap and plastic-like. This Coach bag is a perfect day-time style, black with gold detailing, slouchy shape and a generous size. It actually belongs to my Mom but luckily for me she lets me borrow it. It's very similar to a Michael Kors style which is out at the moment. Coach is such an amazing brand and they really are worth the investment.

Be sure to make the most of your Saturday night dresses by teaming them with tights, boots and gillets for day time looks this AW season.

A/W'13 Trend Report; Burgundy

Duffle Coat (here), Dorothy Perkins // Shopper Bag, (here), Michael Kors // Strappy Sandals (here), Topshop // Leather Jacket (here), Forever 21 // Leather Skater Skirt (here), Miss Selfridge // Pointed Courts, Zara // Leather trousers, Rihanna @ River Island // High Tops (here), Steve Madden // Leather Pencil Skirt (here), Missguided

As aforementioned in a previous post, I am expanding my monthly Wishlists posts and creating more specialised posts for A/W'13. Up first is my top burgundy picks, with an emphasis on the key trend, burgundy leather.

Burgundy leather, when styled well, can make for a very chic outfit. It's a luxe fabric and makes for a very stylish alternative to black leather. Last year I had two key burgundy leather skirts, a mini and a midi pencil skirt, and they were definitely two of my favourite pieces from A/W'12. This year burgundy leather is still a key trend and a must-have in everyones wardrobes. This skater skirt from Miss Selfridge is a gorgeous piece, it actually looks a little darker online but I have seen it in-store and its a beautiful piece. I also chose a pencil skirt from Missguided which is a perfect piece to wear a with crop top and not show too much. This leather from Forever 21 and at €14.99 it is a wardrobe necessity!

Oversized leather trousers are a huge trend this A/W season and Rihanna has created the perfect A/W leather trousers in this gorgeous shade which are available from River Island. I have a burgundy leather bag from last year which I will certainly be using a lot this Winter, it goes with everything and adds colour to a glum outfit. This Michael Kors bag would be every girls dream this season. Heels are also a great way to add burgundy into your outfit, a splash of a beautiful colour but yet effortless to wear.

Penneys A/W'13 Haul

As Autumn has fallen and the weather has begun to change, all too quickly, I went shopping to pick up a few new A/W pieces for my wardrobe's transition. To my surprise I picked up my A/W'13 coats and boots in Penneys and I couldn't be happy with them. Winter coats can be very expensive and I always love to update one or two every year so I was so happy to find two amazing coats in Penneys. The duffel coat is perfect for a casual day time look, and what I love most about this Penneys one is the fur on the hood is actually detachable. I love contrast leather sleeves, a trend which was born anew in A/W'11 is still key and makes a simple black coat far more aesthetically pleasing. I also love the concealed buttons in this style, it's a gorgeous coat and for €35 I couldn't leave it behind.

You may have seen me post these western harness boots to my Facebook this week, they're a black version of my burgundy pair which are featured in my latest outfit post, view it here. I adore western ankle boots and I especially love the metal cut out detail of these pair. They're very similar to a pair by Pamela Love for Nine West in 2012, the sold out style was a huge hit amongst bloggers and had a price tag close to €500. I was so excited to see these boots at Penneys (Primark to my UK readers) Press Day and couldn't wait til they hit the stores. See more of what's to come from my Press Day post here. I also picked up this cobalt blue clutch for a wedding on the weekend, I wore the clutch and cobalt blue Zara heels with a bright yellow Ted Baker Dress. I also really like how the clutch looks with the black coat above. The cute white hearts in the first picture are actually fairy lights which I picked up in Penneys home section.

Happy Shopping All!

Septmeber Wishlist

Black Winged Bag (similar here), Topshop // Eyelash Curlers (here), Shu Uemura // Boyfriend Jeans (similar here), H&M // Leather Front Tshirt (here), River Island // Platfroms (here), Topshop // Crepe Tshirt (here), Mango // Leather Skirt (here), Topshop

Auntum has fallen and I couldn't be more excited. Autumn is my favourite season, I love everything from the rusted leaves and the cool autumn breeze to the gorgeous leather, furs, boots and coats of the AW collections. In Ireland the weather is, well, erratic. We don't get much of a Summer, making it optimally difficult to dress for Summer. Autumn and Winter is far more predictable. Aside from this weather related reason, AW is, by a long shot, always my preferred collection. I love fur and leather, jackets and Crombie coats, sleek blacks, ankle boots, and layering. Oh how I love layering. AW lookbooks and streetstyle is always far more interesting because, quite simply, everyone is wearing more. There is far more styling to be done than throwing on a sundress and gladiator sandals.

And so, as I adore AW so much I have decided to produce a few specialised Wishlist posts for you all this season, in addition to my monthly Wishlists. Above are a few key pieces I am lusting after this September, but I am also working on many more. I will be posting separate specialised wishlists for coats, boots, leather skirts, trousers, bags and Winter accessories throughout the season. An ultimate guide for your AW'13 wardrobe. In addition to this I am working on introducing a page to my header on the blog entitled Shop My Wishlists, where you can click and buy all my favourite pieces from one sartorially beautiful page. What do you all think of this? In other news, I also plan to introduce more beauty related posts to Penny and Polaroids. When I began blogging I wanted to primarily focus on fashion, but now that I have established my blog and am now into my second year of blogging, I am exciting to be bringing you some new and exciting features. Again, I would love to know what you all think.

So, onto my September's Wishlist. For September I focused on some key transitional pieces to bring you into AW'13. These two structured Tshirts are perfect for this, and in two of my favourite fabrics, crepe and leather. These will be so easily styled and look very chic. Pair the white crepe one with your must-have leather skirt (pencil or mini, worn with black tights) and team the leather style with cigarette pants or dark boyfriend jeans for the weekends. I love these dark, distressed boyfriend jeans from H&M, the style and colour is perfect. Like I said, leather skirts are an AW must-have and following on from last season, asymmetrical styles are everywhere. I wore an asymmetrical black leather skirt (view it here) last season and can't wait to update my AW wardrobe with some more various styles. I love this elasticated waist, pale grey one from Topshop. Grey leather is beautiful and it makes for a great change from black. I am really loving Topshop's AW collections thus far, there are so many beautiful pieces on the website at the moment. I love winged handbags and am badly in need of a new black handbag, this Topshop style is perfect AW'13. I have been dying to try Shu Uemura eyelash curlers for ages and finally purchased a pair this week in Dublin but I am yet to test them out, they are supposed to be amazing so I will share a review with you all when I have tried them out. A black bag is essential for your AW wardrobe and this Topshop style couldn't be more perfect for AW'13. This exact one sold out within days but it is sure to be rereleased and there are many similar styles. Lastly, I already posted these Laila platforms on my Facebook page the moment they were rereleased, they're simply beautiful.

Until next time,

September's Palette

Leather Jacket (Here), Bag, Cuff Ring & Jeans (Here), Topshop // Boots, Penneys/Primark //
 Tshirt, Zara // Rings, H&M

Autumn has fallen, the days are getting shorter, there's a chill in the air, today is the first of September and it's the time of year we all brush off our staple boots and leather jackets. I received these burgundy western ankle boots from Penneys as a gift from their press team a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't wait to wear them. Although I love ankle boots and bare legs for a Summer look, these boots are the epitome of autumnal boots. The past few seasons have seen burgundy and oxblood tones as a key trend for AW. I adore burgundy leather particularly, and I of course have an affinity for western cowboy boots, so I was very excited to style these.
In keeping with an Autumnal palette, I teamed the boots with a very simple grey and black outfit. Leigh jeans from Topshop are a wardrobe must-have, soft, comfortable material yet they hold very well, the ultimate skinny jeans style. Topshop is also a favourite of mine for leather jackets. This jacket is two years old and still looks brand new, they rereleased the same style in AW'12, understandably as it is the perfect leather jacket and at an affordable high street price. I also picked up this gorgeous bag in, once again, Topshop last year and still love it. The colour is beautiful and it's the perfect size. I love baggy Tshirts and Zara is always a great choice for them. I am actually wearing this charcoal one back to front for this outfit as the scoop neck suited the outfit better. For the first time in a long time I am wearing silver jewellery, which compliments the tones of the outfit.
Tomorrow is a very exciting day for me as I am shooting with OohLaLa Magazine in Dublin alongside some of Ireland's top bloggers so stay tuned with Penny and Polaroids on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to keep updated!

Until next time,
nuala
